Father Felix de Jesus Rougier, MSpS

Fr. Felix was born in France on December 17, 1859.

Though he had originally considered pursuing a medical career as a doctor, Fr. Felix responded to God’s call to the priesthood. On September 24th, 1887, he was ordained a priest and was assigned to Colombia, even though his missionary desire was to be sent to Oceania. In time, his Congregation assigned him to Mexico, where he met Concepción Cabrera, who in the context of a confession, revealed to Fr. Felix what his mission in the Church would be. Fr. Felix founded our religious family, the Guadalupan Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, on September 15, 1930 in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico.

First Sisters

Our Congregation has its origin in 1914, when three young women of Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.
Emilia Casillas, Celia Acuña and Manuela Saucedo, responded to a call from the Spirit of God. With the desire to serve God through the apostolate of catechesis among the poor, they consecrated their lives to Our Lady of Guadalupe. In 1923 the ladies met with Father Felix in Tlalpan; afterwhich they concluded, “We are no longer alone; for we have found a loving and holy Father!” Upon meeting the ladies and listening to their good intentions and sincere desire to surrender all in service to God. Fr. Felix became their Spiritual Father. Over time, more women of the same mind and heart joined the group.
